The Notre Dame Orthopaedic Society has brought together orthopedic surgeons and professionals from across the country since 1995, many of whom are Notre Dame alums now practicing in health systems, specialty groups, academic centers, and independent practices. Across all of those settings, the question surgeons keep coming back to is the same: how do you build an outcomes measurement program that actually reflects what's happening with patients, without it becoming another administrative burden?
This year's 30th Annual Symposium, running October 8 through 10 in South Bend, puts that question front and center more than once. Friday's joint replacement breakout includes a look at unicompartmental knee replacement (a partial knee replacement that addresses damage in just one compartment of the joint rather than the whole knee) through an American Joint Replacement Registry analysis, a reminder of how much weight registry-quality outcomes data now carries in how a procedure's success gets judged. Later in the same session, a talk on AI-enhanced patient engagement platforms tackles the piece that registries don't solve on their own: how to successfully collect that data from patients in the first place, consistently and at scale.
That's the gap that matters most in practice. Payer conversations, referral relationships, and simply knowing whether a procedure is delivering the results patients expect all depend on consistent, credible data. The challenge is collecting it without the process falling on already-stretched clinical staff, whether that staff sits inside a large health system or a five-surgeon practice.
The PatientIQ platform collects PRO data directly through the EHR, so surveys go out, responses come back, and results land in the clinician's workflow without manual follow-up. PatientIQ's network maintains an 80%+ blended PRO collection rate across automated programs, a level of engagement that's hard to sustain through manual outreach alone, and one that holds up whether the data is feeding a quality dashboard or a registry submission like the one Friday's session will cover.
The practical impact shows up the same way across settings: longitudinal outcomes data that can be used to benchmark against peers, support registry participation, and reinforce the clinical story already being told to referring providers and patients. It's also data that compounds. A practice that's been automating collection for two years walks into a registry analysis conversation with a very different dataset than one that's been chasing surveys manually.
PatientIQ now supports 870+ healthcare organizations and has collected more than 76 million patient-reported outcomes across the network, spanning health systems, specialty practices, and research institutions alike.
The symposium kicks off on Thursday, October 8, with the main program on Friday, October 9. If you'll be there, stop by the PatientIQ booth to experience the platform in practice.
